I'm really diggin' the cool demolition photos of buildings in Detroit on this site. Hopefully it shows the progress towards the rebuilding of D-town.
The dETROITfUNK project was started as a photographic exploration of the City of Detroit in 2000. The presentation of images and ideas here is strictly opinion. The style of writing is conversational and the commentary is, at times, humor of a cynical nature. If these things upset you please seek your amusement elsewhere.
Check out dETROITfUNK's Randy Wilcox being interviewed on NPR regarding the recent demolition of the Motown/Donovan building which will temporarily be used as parking lot for Super Bowl XL.

Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park

An incredible place to plan a day trip and in the summer months catch a concert in a great outdoor venue. The thing I that's really cool is that you can bring a picnic basket and low-back lawn chair (it's a tiered lawn no built in seats) for the concerts.
We encourage visitors that wish to experience Meijer Gardens to plan at least four hours and up to eight hours to enjoy all that there is to offer. Walk the outdoor nature trails and boardwalk, study world-class sculpture within the outdoor Sculpture Park, enjoy endless hours of fun with the kids in the Children's Garden. Visit the indoor areas including a special sculpture exhibitions in the lovely indoor galleries, see the largest tropical conservatory in the state of Michigan and gaze at exquisite arid and carnivorous plants in the Arid Garden and Carnivorous Plant House. Or, consider a special concert in our outdoor terraced Amphitheater Garden, shop in the Meijer Gardens Gift Shop and relax in the Taste of the Gardens Café. Don't miss Michigan's Farm Garden.

This venue is both intimate and intense... The jewel of Old Town...
From the joyous jazz of Wynton Marsalis to the political art of Tyree Guyton, Creole Gallery has become known as an inviting place where different communities gather for art, concerts, theater and poetry.

Located in Lansing, Michigan's historic Old Town, Creole Gallery began as a full-service art, performance and rental space in 1999. It takes its name from the Creole Cigar Co., the first business in this late-19th-Century building at 1218 Turner Street. Employees rolled tobacco into fine cigars after it was delivered by train or boat on the nearby Grand River. Ironically, the Creole is now a no-smoking venue.

Burchfield Park

The finest park in mid-Michigan but shhh.... Don't tell too many people. If you're into mountain biking, picnics, canoeing, fishing, dog walking, x-country skiing, sledding etc... Then this is your place...
With 540 acres of scenic woods, trails and beach, Burchfield Park is Ingham County's largest park. Ribboned throughout by the Grand River, this outdoor haven harbors some of the best bank and boat fishing available in Ingham County.

If you love unique book stores you will love Curious Book Shop. Plus you'll be supporting an East Lansing institution and not just another one of those chain bookstores/coffee shops. If you are looking for a book you can't seem to find anywhere else, chances are they can help. Don't hesitate to ask their staff because they really know their stuff. You can lose hours in this place so beware...
Curious Book Shop is a used & rare book store located in downtown East Lansing. Originally started in a basement thirty years ago, the store has since expanded to three floors of well-organized books, magazines, and other paper items!

Snow

I dig snow in winter...

Let's face it, the only good winter in Michigan is a winter with snow. I mean a good solid 3 to 4 months of winter wonderland. Here's hoping the fluffy white stuff will continue to fall and stick around until say.... Spring.

Vitale's and Fricano's Pizza

I dig Vitale's and Fricano's pizza...

I'm not too sure about all of their locations, but I've been going to the Leonard Street Vitale's for most of my life. To this day I have not had a better pizza and everytime I pass through Grand Rapids I make it a point to grab a pie to go. They have mastered the art of pizza making.

The other pizza I go out of my way to get is Fricano's in Grand Haven. Fricano's offers a very unique and addictive pizza. When you crave one, it is hard to find a substitute. Once again, I don't know about all of their locations and will always head to the original location in Grand Haven because the building and unique offerings are part of the overall experience. Don't be discouraged by the line out the door, it generally moves fast and their pizza is worth the wait.
